Hi Lisa, I’m looking at blog and website info for my yet to be blog for my paintings to sell on eBay and display on the site. I’m trying to determine if I want to have a web site too and/or the expense of one. The blog will let my customers interact with me while the web site won’t as much. I’ve built and had several sites online in the past from templates, but did not do anything with them…wrong content, subjects etc. I found you on Google and discovered your site is more helpful and clearer than the others. Your teaching experience gives you an edge on the others. I’ll look at your downloaded ebook now, and Instant Word Press. I have another month or so before I need to finalize this. Yes, that’s my site. I’m a domain and hosting reseller. So you would sign up for the “WordPress” hosting under “Hosing” and once you have your domain and hosting then you can create a WordPress site and do the blog/static combo.
I’m not sure about your 2nd question but you can sell anything on your website — even if it’s not named accordingly. So you would just create a page and then link your order page from any page on that site. The name doesn’t really matter.

I’ve had a website in the past where I sold funky reading glasses (thus the odd email address). It started out as fun, but then when I had to come home from a long day at work and had to pack glasses for mailing, it ceased being fun. Also, the day job was already too much for me (one of those 24/7 IT jobs) so I quickly lost interest in the glasses and frankly didn’t put much effort into the website so we closed it down. Now I am retired (with a few odd contract jobs). My hobby is cooking and quite by accident started a blog – my brother wanted my recipes from a dinner party I had, so I thought I’d just create a little blog for his reference. Now that I have more time, and need something fun to do, I think I’ll take this on-line venture a little more seriously and keep adding my recipes and pics! My name is Nathaniel Moikabi and I am an Ambitioned technologist from Ramotswa, Botswana, Africa, I made a general social network called Chatterclub last year in August and during this all time I have changing it a lot to make it have almost everything,
I have been struggling to get people to join and at the it has 61 members. This has caused to keep changing the look of the site a lot until I found its final look 2 weeks back after watching one of your videos.
You kept saying that ” If you in a rush to monetise your site then this is not the video for you” and I noticed that I have been in a rush to monetise my site and took less time to think about all the changes I was making to the site. During the time that i have been watching you videos I have bought a domain for the site, used it sub domains to start a feedback channel, started it WordPress blog on a masked sub domain and its blogger account on another sub domain and I have also updated my google plus personal account and page. I also now do weather updates on my site for cities, towns and villages
After failing to get into Adsense 3 times I downloaded your book yesterday and started reading it , today I have a sidebar ad from Adbrite on my site that appears on every page on the site, an Amazon associate store on one of the pages which I was to run an ecwid.com store that I had already store I also have have a small ad on the top of the home page advertising trending products on the store. The adverts are non intrusive as you said on the book and your videos. I think it will no be long before adsense approves my account too.

Hi Lisa, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge! I have always loved computers. In college I wanted major in computers but back then the technology wasn’t as advanced as it is now and most of my study time would have involved being in the computer lab and with a husband and 3 kids it just wasn’t practical (I was already commuting 30 miles 3-4 times a week for my classes). I would love to learn HTML & CSS and create my own website. Just building a website would be a dream come true for me; I could literally spend hours and hours on the computer, I love it!! Building and maintaining the website would be my passion; eventually if I was able to earn an income from it that would just be an added bonus. I want to learn as much as I can about niche marketing and the guts of building a website from scratch.

Hi, Lisa. Thank you so much for all of your help and interest in helping others do what you do. I have a created a website and am currently working to get it functional. I am in the minor changes stage, but I am taking time to make sure it is navigational before I try to promote it. I started it only 2 weeks ago, but I have used some of your tutorials to help me get it looking pretty good. I suspect I will have it ready for traffic in the next week or so. After that, I will be most interested in learning more about SEO and generating income through AdSense and affiliate links. My biggest challenge right now is probably a lack of understanding of SEO, tags, and the best way to name my pages to improve my search results. I can’t complain, though. 3 weeks ago I knew absolutely nothing — very little HTML even. I barely even understood how a browser read the language. I started with textbooks and learned the basics before moving on to WordPress and purchasing Thesis. I have spent 8+ hours every day reading, learning, and creating my page (I learned a large portion of it from you– thank you!). I have no “real job” (heehee), so I have many hours to devote to my site. I am hoping to earn revenue as quickly as possible (while realizing this is not a get-rich-quick scam). A short-term success goal is $1000/month. (I apologize for the double post. I failed to proofread before submitting.)

Have you done any keyword research for you niche? I wonder if the problem is that because your topic is very vague, it’s hard to drive targeted traffic. For example, your site is about dealing with life’s curve balls. But most people don’t type in “dealing with life’s curve balls” in google. They type “How do I manage stress?” So I think if you start using more search engine friendly keywords and focus your site more that will help you build more traffic and therefore make more money.
Thanks Lisa. I was really only using the expression life’s curve balls to illustration the tone of my blog. I do use words like procrastination, assertiveness, persistence and so on. I post on Facebook and Twitter and have a Facebook fan page. I’m also on LinkedIn. It’s very early days for me yet but I’m hoping to increase traffic to my website and blog with the help of your tips.

It has started to grow now that I am on Facebook and I am now starting Pinterest. What A learning curve. I do like your current approach to Pinterest (more narrow category).

If I could give you one tip about the forum, I would say to keep your categories down to a minimum while the forum is small. When I first launched Website Babble, it only had 4 categories. The reason you keep it small is it looks less vacant when the forum is new. Then once activity picks up you can make more categories.
Try posting some starter questions to get the conversations going.
I don’t know what forum software you’re using but if you create milestones for your users (can add a sig after so many posts, can add an image after X posts, etc.) that will give your visitors something to shoot for. Also, hold contests that are related to your niche. I have a forum dedicated to contests only.
I also award MVP (most valuable posters) once a month and they get a link to the top of my forum if they contribute value. Hope that helps!

A goal that has gone unfulfilled. I would like to know more about blogging because I have had several ideas on topic but not sure if they would be niche topics or not.
