Get This Theme

Update: I no longer recommend this theme.

If you like my WordPress theme, I have some very good news for you.  After going through numerous WordPress themes over the past 14 months, I finally found one that is easy to customize and the forum support is great.

The theme is called Thesis and it was created by Chris Pearson and sold by DIYThemes.  Chris is known for designing many of the popular blogs out here so it’s no surprise that Thesis has been such a huge hit with the blogging world.

Get this theme, and you’ll never want to use anything else again.

Want to move a sidebar to the other side of your page?  No problem.  Want to change the color or positioning of your horizontal nav bar?  No problem.

Want to add Google ads below your header or at the end of your posts?  It’s never been easier thanks to the free Thesis OpenHook plugin.

And what’s even better is you can make all those updates without having to edit the code. Many of the design updates can be made right from the WordPress control panel.

I said “bye-bye” to the free themes for good and I’m a true Thesis fan.  Watch my video below to learn more about it.

Lisa’s Advice: In my personal opinion, knowing CSS will help you unlock the real power of Thesis.  You don’t HAVE to be fluent, but the more you know, the more you’ll be able to customize your theme’s design.

If you don’t know CSS, you can still move elements around the page (sidebars, etc.) without getting into the code (especially with version 1.6!).  Plus, you can make easy edits using the OpenHook plugin.

But if you want to really customize your header and make your overall design very different from the default, you should learn CSS and how to use the very cool Thesis hook feature.  I taught myself the basics and I’m glad I did.

Get Thesis now!

    Hey! I realize this is somewhat off-topic however I needed to ask.
    Does operating a well-established blog like yours take a massive amount
    work? I am completely new to blogging however I do write in my
    journal every day. I’d like to start a blog so I can share my own experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for brand new aspiring blog owners. Appreciate it!|

    When I first started a year and a half ago, it was this video that convinced me to purchase Thesis, Lisa, and I’ve been a fan ever since – both you and Thesis!

    Hi Lisa,
    I work with XSitePro. Now for some reasons I look for a real good WP-theme. I saw thesis, headway and flexsqueeze. I would like to use WP for blogs and cms. In your opinion: which one is the best? Please give me little help?!
    Thanks in advance from Germany

    Thanks for this article. Just one recommendation though, it would have helped if you have compared it with the Canvass theme. I think they’re a bit similar.

    Thanks for the intro to Thesis, Lisa. My questions are ,how do you imbed video onto your blog? Maybe a short tutorial for us newbies? Also how did you tile your blog background on Thesis and which affiliates are you getting the code from for your ‘moving ads’? I know this is loaded with questions but I’m trying to figure this all out and it can be overwhelming at times!

      Hi

      To embed videos from YouTube is just copy and paste. You get the code from YouTube, open your page, paste the code and Voila! There are tutorials for how to style your Thesis blog. If you Google Thesis Guide you will see instructions for adding a background. The moving ads come from AdSense.

      Under the Thesis “Site Options” in your WordPress Control Panel there’s a way to configure your navigation and add categories/pages.

    Having problems placing code to adjust teaser length
    function my_excerpt_length($length) {
    return 50;
    }
    add_filter(‘excerpt_length’, ‘my_excerpt_length’);
    Placed it in differant places using open hook plugin
    and in custom php. No change. Can anyone tell me
    where to place it in open hook or php?

    Thesis has been continually developing and is a great theme.

    I worry about using free themes as it is all too easy for unknown code to be contained within them including code that allows complete access to the site.

    Hi Lisa
    I think that Thesis will be my next theme.

    As I understand it Thesis upgrades are free for life but is support free for life?

    I’ll have to get my wife to buy me Thesis for my birthday or even before the price increase.

    BTW – love your video.
    Very professional.

    Hello Anonymous,
    I am the Thesis user also and very happy. It is getting better and better. I listened to Lisa and never regret after since.
    It is one time only and updates are free. If you want to use it
    only for one site go with cheaper kind. I paid $167 at the time
    a year ago wich is unlimited. Now I use it on my other sites as well. If you have more sites to make then go with unlimited domains. You don’t have to go for $299.

    I use thesis on one of my blogs, but I found it to cumbersome and I wasn’t prepared to learn hooks. So the search went on until I found one that is all I could have asked for. It is the most customizable theme I’ve ever used, and no hooks required.

    I definitely recommend thesis theme. Bing.com began indexing my site since I used thesis. My ranking in SERPS increased significantly. Page load increased. My investment is worth it!
