Boost Your Traffic & Income With e-Books

Filed Under: Build Traffic, Make Money 17 Comments

In the last site review I mentioned how offering e-books from my site has really helped boost my traffic and income over the years. So I thought I’d create a video showing you how simple it is to create an e-book using Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Adobe Acrobat is quite expensive and may not be in the budget for everyone, so if you have experience with more economical software solutions please feel free to comment on this post.

Just remember that you always get what you pay for and some of the lower cost solutions may not provide the benefits that Adobe does like securing the book from theft and creating feedback forms that people can complete and print right from the book.

However if those features are not important to you, you can use a more economical solution for creating your books. I would still recommend using the PDF format, however, because they are compatible with both Macs and PC’s.

Really glad I’ve read this. I also wanted to make a e-book but didn’t know where to start. At one point I considered hiring a professional to this for me.
Is there also the possibility to sell these books, in stead of giving them away?

Great idea and thing to have. I am thinking about creating/offering a free e-book. It ads value to your website’s visitors and ads to the branding of your website. Good stuff Lisa!

Do you sell your books or provide them for free to be downloaded from your website or blog. I run a personal blog dealing with naval architecture, the art and science of designing and building ships. I want to know how to increase significant traffic to my blog.

Nitro PDF Professional is the best alternative to Adobe Acrobat. It’s more user-friendly, and it’s cheaper too at $99. It has most of the features of Acrobat, some not even found in the latter, and it’s really, really great. (Of course, if you don’t want to pay anything and use MS Word 2007 to write your eBook you could always download the PDF add-on for it to create a PDF and then view it in Adobe Reader. However, security is not available, which is why I recommend Nitro PDF. Password security, bookmarking — everything useful is available in it.

I have tried this method and my traffic rose by 14% when i last audited my stats. I always find paid promotions (Not ones I pay money to get traffic. But the one’s I pay people to do simple stuff like leave a comment and so on) to be more productive. the study was based on the number of RSS readers I was able to retain after both types of promotions

Hi Lis, I have been researching, testing and experimenting with many promotion tools such as, Twitter, You Tube, Articles and many more, though I’m yet to create my own ebook, that’s definitely next on my list!

I have to say being a member of the Web Babble Forum has really helped me to develop many valuable skills. Also having being so well received by the other members of the forum has given me the confidence to develop my own brand as well as create my first product and being comfortable with having my name out there.

In short I can’t help but realize that 2 Create a Website has in no small part helped me along the road to becoming a competent Webmaster and Internet Marketer.
    Thanks for the Opportunity!
    Kind Regards John

    Hi Lisa,
a great idea would also be to create/upload your e-book to the kindle network as that would also generate some revenue.

Jordy, that’s great to know. I didn’t know about the angled-text feature with GIMP. That will come in handy for e-book covers.

I use Open Office and it works great for writing and converting a Word document into a PDF.

I also use Gimp for photo editing. It is freeware and can be downloaded at http://www.gimp.org You can add angled text to your ebook covers with this program. Many people have said it is comparable to Photo Shop.

    Thanks Fabian,

Great! Thanks for posting this because not everyone has Word and I’ve never used anything but that program for my PDFs. Thanks again.

Great Video Lisa! I might add… If you don’t have a word processor such as MS Word to type out your eBook, you can download a free word processor called Open Office Writer from OpenOffice.org. This is an excellent word processor and works on both Macs and PCs. It has a handy PDF icon on the tool bar that allows you to export your text as a PDF file with just one click. Adobe Acrobat Professional has more bells and whistles, however, such as allowing you to control the compression, which can be important if your ebook has lots of graphics.
