You may have seen this after logging in to your AdSense account…
Your ads have recently appeared on websites you haven’t authorized. To avoid lost revenue, make sure to authorize any sites where you display ads by visiting your account settings.
When you click the link you’ll find various sites and IP addresses that have been displaying your ads. Some of the sites and IP’s are simply cached search engine URLs and some are not so clear.
I always thought it was strange to see Google’s domains in this list. Why don’t they recognize their own URLs? So I did some digging around and found this article on the Google AdSense Support page:
When using the authorized sites feature, any sites that you haven’t authorized will trigger an alert message on your home page. We currently consider any framed or cached pages to be unauthorized, including when a user searches using Google Images and your site is displayed via frame.
We encourage you to add framed and cached URLs of sites you trust to your authorized sites list. We’re investigating ways to improve this feature.
So I would “allow” all domains that you trust (Bing, Yahoo, Google cache, Google translator, etc.) Now that I understand this is an automated issue from caching and frames, it makes a little more sense why certain sites are showing up in the alert.
Maybe they should consider putting this explanation on the actual page with the alert. I’m sure this has confused quite a few publishers.

I have a Blogspot site which I have ad code from another published. But when the published use site authorization feature ad revenue is counted only against the .com domain. But as it is Blogspot some domains are blogspot.au, blogspot.in so how to solve this issue?

Toufiq,
It’s a good internet marketing practice to diversify your online income strategies. Another words…don’t put all your eggs in 1 basket by joining one specific ad network. Join places like Amazon, Affiliate Window, CJ, LinkShare, Share A Sale, and Avantlink. This way, when one network you feel is not up to par with you, strive to make money from the others.

Lisa, are you still feeling/thinking the same way about this, 3 years later? I just authorized ‘m.facebook.com’ and ‘facebook.com’ on my account, despite not “owning” that site (I wish)! But I don’t want to lose what could be revenue, there. The snippet from Adsense that you reference above is what I want to believe and do – but I note that the above link no longer contains that specific text anymore, either. Any knowledge, update, gut feeling? Thanks!

Hi Steve,
Adding the facebook URL won’t do anything because it’s a generic site that you have no control over. Same thing with sites like google.com, bing.com, etc. Since you can’t add AdSense ads to FB I’m guessing this alert is coming from some kind of scraped content. In other words, there’s no point in putting in generic domains that you have no control over.

My reports also suggest that only a very small % of my ad impressions are coming from facebook.com domains. So, now I’ve gone ahead and removed them from the list – I like that list just featuring my own site, if I can do that. I think you are saying (and I agree) that one way or the other, this isn’t going to make much difference – so I’m opting for the clean list, based on your comments and what my reports seem to suggest. Thanks for helping me think it all out!

Yep that’s exactly what I’m saying. 🙂 Good luck Steve. Glad I could offer some assistance.

Ahmed sobhy says

Ahmed sobhy says
i am sure , and as i told you when i go to account setting to see the websites that i haven’t authorized i see nothing
Lisa Irby says
Do you see a contact form? AdSense now allows people who make more than $25/week to now contact them.
Ahmed sobhy says
yea but when i try to see websites that i haven’t authorized in my account setting i see nothing , and i lost many revenue after this message and one more thing all my trafic from facebook , do i have to add facebook as trusted site in the list ?
Lisa Irby says
Are you sure that’s why you lost traffic or is that a coincidence?
Srihari says
You mean “from” facebook or “on” facebook? and either way that should not affect your revenue.
