Would You Like $57,000 In One Month?

February 3, 2008 · 19 comments

Someone who belongs to the same domain name reseller program as me earned that amount in January.

Every month the program publishes the top performers. While I was pleased to have earned a spot in the top 10 with my own personal record, I was floored when I saw the top earner pulled in nearly $60,000.

Usually the #1 reseller earns around $40,000.

Shows you how lucrative the domain name business is these days. And it makes sense. With the U.S. headed for a recession, more and more people are looking for ways to make money at home.

Why So Hot?

Thousands of people start websites each month, and that number grows drastically every year. So it’s a great business to be in these days.

Websites are cheap to start and Web hosts are making them easier to build.

So even if your site is not about website building, surely you know people offline who want a website. Why not join a reseller program and benefit from their new venture?

You’ll earn lifetime commissions on their domain name, hosting and any other web related products they purchase from your own branded reseller site.

So the residuals can really pay off over time. I am still earning commissions from people who bought their sites when I started reselling domains in 2002.

Remember, domains and hosting have recurring fees for customers. So as a reseller, you earn a commission for all domain and hosting renewals… for each customer. Your income will snowball overtime if you keep signing up new customers.

So if you know people who want to start an online business or even build a personal website, you could join a reseller program, send them to your turnkey website and earn a commission on every order placed.

Control Your Destiny

You will have the opportunity to customize many functions on your reseller site, including your prices. So you determine how much you’ll profit from each sale. You can even setup discount pricing for friends if you wish.

Customer support and online ordering are both handled by the registrar, so you don’t have to worry about answering emails, phone calls, tech support etc. All you do is send people to your branded reseller site and wait for the commission.

So if you’re looking to make some extra cash on the side, why not give it a go? The domain biz is scorching hot, especially now!

Awesome tip! I always look forward to getting your posts. I admit I didn’t realize the domain reseller biz was so profitable. I’ll definitely check it out.

Thanks again,
Dana

Lisa, it was big surprise to know such figures for domain registration. I always thought it is a small fish, but you change my mind.

You have a beer from me :)

Shoot, I just shelled out 4K for 2 domains.

Do you have a link to the best site that shows expiring domains?

Lisa,

I just want to say that I have never ever, for the years I have been using the internet, seen anyone so thorough, honest, organized, content rich, authoritative, sound advisor, determined, scam-free, brief and concised, etc. — the list could go on and on. You are not to be believed! You are my hero. What you do the way you do is the way, I believe, things should be done.

I have been trying to figure how to make everything work and have not been able to get off the ground running. I want to put out in the same manner I would appreciate receiving it.

“You” are just soooo tight in the way you handle your business that I firmly believe you should be the example for everyone else. You have made a believer out of me!

Now admitedly, I am a little intimidated because I know nothing about domain reselling. Do you recommend your link http://www.securepaynet as top choice or do you have another? I would like to get started today if possible.

Thanks much!!!

Hi Kai

That’s got to be one of the best compliments I’ve ever received online. Wow, I’m truly humbled by that. There are many other domain name resellers out there but I recommend this one because it’s the only one I’ve ever used.

Lisa,

I’m just reading over this. Good info, I’m taking all of this in. I do have one question for you about the domain reseller thing – how are advertsing this yourself? Are you sending out emails or do you have some kind of link or something on your existing websites? Just wondering how you’re getting folks to sign up.

Renee,

2CreateAWebSite.com is the only way I promote it. (No ezine… just content throughout that gets picked up by the search engines.) I just weave it into my content when talking about building a website.

Holy cow, 60k from selling sitesell? How many sites does that equal?

Ty,

No, not from selling Site Build It!, just selling regular domain names and hosting from a registrar. Site Build It! is a totally different program.

lisa,

you are just short of rock star (money making web pro) status. i am following your lead after (over) 15 hours of reviewing your site and related links/sites within your content. i feel as though you deserve a commission on what i will make…….site build it and and the domain/host/website biz (you recommend) are the money making bomb. nothing like making money in cool nike gear at home while working on a flat stomach ;)

much luv, will be in touch.

you rule, be proud and keep getting paid$$$$$$$$$

Hi Lisa!
Correct me if I’m wrong, which I probably am knowing how credible your recommendations are, but how would I generate traffic to my own ‘domain name reseller’ generic site whether with this program or any other? I’m a bit on the slow side…forgive me.

Ricky, the best way to do it is to build a site that targets people who want websites. Since my site is about “how to build websites” and gets a lot of traffic, it does very well reselling domains. On the other hand, a site about fitness wouldn’t do as well because it’s the wrong audience. Would I recommend this route for everyone? Not really because website creation / hosting is a very saturated niche and I had a huge advantage getting started in this very early.

But even if you build a site on something other than building websites, if you build up enough credibility with your audience, you can still gently promote domain names on your “about me” page where you tell your audience how to start their own websites and then you’d casually link over to your reseller store.

Some resellers do a lot of offline advertising. Everyone wants a website these days so you could pass your biz card out to friends and family and of course the card would have a link to your reseller store.

I’m not a fan of offline promotions, I’ve always been comfortable online and learning search engine optimization but there are many ways to go about this. You just have to decide what works best for you. :)

Hi Lisa,

Another fantastic post. I just subscribed:)

I agree that owning a site related to computers and the web is ideal.

Actually, I was thinking that maybe another good way to link in a reseller site link to another site (for promotion) could be to suggest creating a website to their site’s audience. The site could really be about any number of topics. It could be, for instance, someone owning a website about their band (which caters to musicians like himself) having a website of their own to help them to promote their band too. As such, having their own website could help them to follow through on a business, hobby etc. It would be like saying, “You can do this too.”
I would think that could be powerful motivation, no? Of course, this only would be the proper thing to recommend if that particular audience creating a website really made some type of marketing sense, and was not just self-serving.
