Hello, I just want to thank and commend you for posting such valuable and insightful infromation on how to start a website. Im now eager to start putting together my own fitness site; however, once Im done with the creative process and its ‘all systems go’ what is the best way to promote, or make my site known?

There are hundreds of ways to promote your site. Forums (related to your topic), social networking sites, search engines (learn SEO), article marketing, YouTube, create e-books and give them away, the list goes on. You have to experiment with various avenues and stick with the ones that give you the best results. Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to my email earlier, but I thought this question might help some of your other readers as well.
As I’m pondering which direction to go online, I’m still confused as to which would be better: a website or blog.
Ultimately, I would end up having something that has posts, affiliate links (eventually – after targeted traffic is coming in), forums, pics, videos (maybe) etc.
It seems the Thesis theme will allow you to do all of the above as a website would and you just need to have sufficient hosting?
Can you elaborate on the advantages of having a website over a blog and vice-versa or is it really not that relevant anymore, depending on your topic and content?

Basically you can make a lot of money with either, but your decision should be based on how you want to structure your content.
Blogs are definitely much more dynamic (meaning you can arrange and publish content in different ways. i.e. sort content by most commented posts, category, etc.). You can do that with a website too but it would take more coding.

Hi Aamir Mian,
In order to create a website, you will need an html editor. I use NVU, but there are others more advanced out there. I was on a budget so I chose NVU. If you want something a bit more advanced then there’s Dreamweaver which is really good, but it can be a bit challenging to use if you’re new to creating a website.
You will also need a domain name and a web host. I use GoDaddy for my domain name purchases and hostgator for my hosting, but there are many to choose from. You will also need ftp software in order to upload your files to your website. Filezilla is what I use and it’s free.
But in order to create a website, you will need to start off by getting an html editor, a domain name, hosting and ftp software.

A few tips from a newbie web designer.
12 mths ago I didnt know anything about html or CSS infact nothing at all. I have found a few good tutorial sites for you all to try.
But 1st make sure you read as much content from Lisa’s web site and blogs its been a great help.
Lisa I hope you dont mind me pointing people to another place but we’re all here to help eah other.
Also you’ll need a decent editor though, as Lisa says.
http://www.tutvid.com -(my favorite) takes through step by step processes of lots of different apsects or web design.
http://www.layersmagazine.com – lots of different tutorials.
Then try http://www.kelbytraining.com and
http://www.lynda.com, both are excellent and have helped me out a lot. check my work out and see for your self. Dont forget I knew nothing and created my web site and blog. (a template was used in my site which I have edited the CSS to make my own)
