Where Does Your Traffic Come From?

Filed Under: Build Traffic 51 Comments

Top 5 Traffic SourcesEarlier this year, I asked you about your top referral traffic categories (search engines, direct/bookmark traffic, referring sites, etc.)

So I thought it would be cool to see what specific sites send you the most traffic.

My top 5 traffic sources to this blog in the past month were…

1) 2CreateAWebSite.com

2) YouTube.com (From my two channels combined)

3) WebsiteBabble.com (My forum)

4)  Twitter

5)  Google

Just a few notes…

1) A lot of people assume I get more traffic to my blog, but my static website outperforms this blog by far when it comes to traffic and earnings.

2) Even though Google is ranked 5th for traffic referrals for this blog, it’s ranked 1st for my static website.

3) Regarding Twitter traffic, I do not have my blog address in my Twitter profile.  (I use a Twitter landing page because it’s more personal.)  So my Twitter referrals for this blog are coming from announcing my blog posts through Twitterfeed and RT’s (retweets) from my generous followers.

I used the Google Analyticator plugin to retrieve my “top 5 referrer” data.  I love it because it shows a quick overview of your traffic (top referrers, searches, etc.) right on your WP dashboard.  It’s nice because I don’t have to login to Google Analytics just to get a quick overview.

What were your top referring sites in the past month?

I really don’t know much about traffic building. I make decent income on low traffic. Most visitors from google, offline advertising on auto, business cards.

This self review of traffic makes me realize I’m not doing enough to drive traffic. I used to focus on driving traffic from twitter but after receiving a consistent 80% bounce rate I dropped twitter from traffic recruitment. It seems the tweeters are more inclined to have ADD and therefore bounce.

Register a domain and get situated right with Speedy-Joe’s. Please and thanks!

    Hi Lisa,
First of all I am a big Fan of your youtube channel, I have been trying things out on my site which you talked about in your videos.
My site is a technical site, so I get all my traffic from Google. Second, from the bookmarking sites like dzone, digg, reddit..etc.

    Hi,

There are a lot of ways to bring traffic to your websites i like using manual traffic exchanges they work great they bring my site a ton of additional traffic. So if you want a lot of traffic to your sites you can save your self a lot of time by just using manual traffic exchanges.

    Hi Lisa,

I found your YouTube videos back when I launched my first ad-supported website, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Thanks for your continued devotion to quality content.

The traffic for my lead website is averaging 326,000 visitors per month after only 3 years, and growing like crazy. I hope the following list is of great help to someone else.

    Here are my top 5:
    1) WordPress.com Blogs – They let you link to your own content, so I have created several free resource directories and have linked to many great resources around the web.
    2) AssociatedContent.com – I love the fact that I can add in-text links to my own content, and that they will pay my for writing the article!
    3) YouTube.com – More than 300 videos so far and well worth the effort.
    4) Flickr.com – So great and so easy. I just post an image, chose my keywords and include a link. An unexpected advantage has been that other image sites have been picking up my images and delivering even more traffic than Flickr.
    5) Facebook – I haven’t tapped this for all it’s worth, though it has been a good source of traffic for my effort.

Hi Lisa, I started a new blog last week! I’m using WordPress 3.0 and it’s super easy to install plugins and themes. I’m glad you reminded me to get the Google Analyticator plugin, it’s pretty cool. So after one week my traffic sources are:
    Bloggerluv.com
    Twitter
    Stumbleupon
    Ms. Ileane Speaks
    Facebook
I’m hoping the search engines will find me one day this week. I sent out a search party 🙂

My list is constantly changing due to the blog commenting that I do and I am still at the early stage and averaging around 100 daily visitors (not sure if that is good or not good?)
My top three are always: Google, Twitter, BlogEngage, and the last shuffle around a little

Years back I did a lot of linking and just didn’t see the return in traffic for the hours spent posting. I focus more on directories and the main engines now in which they will index you in time. I guess exchanges still working if you have the views on your site.

    1. Google
    2. Yahoo
    3. Bing
I haven’t read into it but yahoo and bing are changing how they index?
    4. Directories

    Google
    Directs
    Various Third Party Sites Combined
    Various Social Bookmarking Sites Combined
    Clickbank & Clickbank Affiliates

One can either consistently work to get referral visits (consistently comment on blogs and forums), or focus on methodologies that generate them on their own (i.e. proper SEO for SE’s to send you traffic, creating quality content so others naturally link back and send visitors to you).

    I prefer the later.

    5) sfhostforum.com

My posts are automatically SEO by all in one SEO. I tend to target keywords that are getting a lot of searches according to Google and it’s paid off.

One of my posts created a huge buzz inside reddit when it was submitted by a visitor giving me a great traffic boost. (Actually one of the highest days ever recorded on the blog.).

The amount of Direct traffic and returning visitors is great which lets me know that I am promoting in the right area and that people are finding my content worth reading as they are coming back and typing my URL directly.

The other two is a directory I submitted to and a Free Forum Hosting Service that I set up.

I think I may have to adapt my social networking strategy in as Twitter came in 8th and FaceBook 15th.

    Nice Post Lisa!
